Here’s How You Join Shadow School Yoga Challenge

If you are a Practice with Clara member—you’re all set! The playlist will be posted on September 25th for you to preview the month of classes.

  2. Use coupon code 💀 SHADOW2022 💀 at checkout to receive free access to the 30-day challenge. The coupon code expires on October 4th, 2022. 
New members will access the challenge and over 250 classes within the Practice With Clara app. At the end of the challenge, if you enjoyed practicing with us and would like to continue with the app, you do not need to do anything. You will begin a paid membership in November.

If you do not cancel your membership before November 1st, 2022, you will continue with a paid subscription and be charged the $18.99 monthly fee. We DO NOT offer refunds. It’s up to you to cancel your membership before the month is up to avoid being charged.

  • OCTOBER 1st, 2022: Shadow School Yoga Challenge begins.
  • October 4th: Shadow School Coupon Code expires- use the code before this date to get the full month for free.
  • November 1st: For those who completed the 30 days of yoga, fill out a short form to be entered to win a gift.
  • November 5th: We’ll announce the winners of the raffle after the Livestream yoga class. 

We’ll follow the honor system and check to see that you log into the apps every day of the month, and from that list, we will hold a raffle for the gifts! Here is the clip of the raffle from one of our previous yoga challenges.

About the Shadow School Classes

You’ll do seven classes that repeat over four weeks.

Day 1 – Fear

A faster-paced and fiery class that builds heat and strength in the body. This class includes twists, leg balancing, hip and hamstring opening, and backbends. 

Releases: Fear
Creates: Power/Strength
Emotions: Grounded
Body Part: Legs
Chakra: Root – Muladhara 
Element: Earth

Day 2 – Guilt

A dynamic class with simple transitions that features side waist, hamstring, and hip opening. This class is great for runners and cyclists as it lengthens the leg muscles and chest. 

Releases: Guilt
Creates: Connection
Emotions: Flow
Body Part: Hips
Chakra: Sacral – Svadhisthana 
Element: Water

Day 3 – Shame

A fluid class with playful transitions that keeps you guessing as to where this sequence is headed. Focusing on the core and back muscles, this class equally strengthens and lengthens the muscles attached to the spine.

Creates: Transformation
Emotions: Strong
Body Part: Core
Chakra: Solar Plexus – Manipura
Element: Fire

Day 4 – Grief

This class creates space to move through and express grief. Open your practice by shaking the arms, legs, and entire body to release stagnancy and physical tension.

Body Part: Heart
Chakra: Heart – Anahata
Element: Air

Day 5 – Heart Truth

A short class that creates space in the side body, shoulders, and chest to prepare for deep twists and backbends. The theme of this class is duplicity; what’s living in your heart may be different from what you’re communicating.

Emotions: Balanced
Body Part: Neck/Shoulders
Chakra: Throat – Vishuddha 
Element: Sound

Day 6 – Maya

A playful class that moves through leg balancing poses such as eagle, half moon, and standing hand-to-foot poses builds strength and tests your balance. This class is themed for Maya, illusion, and asks that you breathe deep and call upon your divinity—your relationship to your soul.

Emotions: Peace
Body Part: Meditation/Visualization
Chakra: Third Eye – Ajna
Element: Light

Day 7 – Attachment

This class is great for anyone who works at a desk or commutes to work. With core and back body strengthening, you’ll release the muscles strained by sitting. Twists, heart-opening, lunges, and hamstring lengthening are featured.

Chakra: Crown – Sahasrara
Element: Ether

Why Shadow School? 

Inspired by one of her teachers, Rob Brezsny, Clara themed the latest Lila Flow Yoga Series to unearth the darker emotions we experience.

Shadow School takes this concept one step further to consider the unconscious aspects of the psyche, or as Carl Jung calls it, the Shadow

“It is by going down into the abyss that you recover the treasures of life,” wrote Joseph Campbell. “Where you stumble, there lies your treasure.”

Jungian psychologists believe that you must confront your Shadow and bring it to the Light to awaken your inner divinity.

Rob Brezsny writes: “Neuroscientists at Britain’s Bristol University have concluded that playing in the dirt can make you feel really good. That’s because most soil is crawling with species of bacteria that interact favourably with the human body, strengthening the immune system and stimulating the brain in the same way antidepressants do. Let’s hypothesize that this is an apt metaphor for playing in the dirt of the shadow.”

Shadow School Yoga Challenge asks that you be open to receiving all parts of yourself; the sticky, uncomfortable, and undesirable.

You will be supported by a community AND prompted to reflect with meditation, journaling questions, and classes themed on the emotions we’d rather ignore.

Fear, Grief, Anger, Shame, Guilt, Duplicity, Illusion, Attachment; you will tenderly examine and express each emotion in a Lila Flow Yoga class featuring original music by Pete Wonder. 
We must eat our own shadow—haul it up from out of the pit and develop a conscious connection with it. Doing so not only prevents our unacknowledged darkness from haunting our thoughts and distorting our relationships; it also liberates tremendous psychic energy.

*We invite you to listen to your body throughout the month. Remember that every pose/variation is an offering; you don’t have to do them. Rest when you need to. Before going deeper into a pose, ask yourself, does this serve where my body and mind are today.
