Shadow School | 30-Day Yoga Challenge

Are you willing to traverse the darker aspects of yourself?

Shadow School is a calling to learn to embrace your dark side and bring it to the light to reconcile unconscious imbalances.

You’re invited to a Shadow School Yoga Challenge

October 1st- October 30th, 2021

Join us for an exhilarating 30-day experience that asks you to make space to surface the subconscious aspects of yourself. You’ll be tasked with tenderly examining the pieces of your persona you avoid or suppress and perhaps unconsciously overlook with yoga, mantra, meditation, and journaling prompts to encourage you through your process.

“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life, and you will call it fate.” — Carl Jung

Shadow School is your summons to acknowledge your wild side, surface intense emotions, and expunge the parts of yourself you no longer need. You are ready to face the core beliefs, motivations, desires, and aspirations that bring darkness and lightness into your life.

We must eat our own shadowhaul it up from out of the pit and develop a conscious connection with it. Doing so not only prevents our unacknowledged darkness from haunting our thoughts and distorting our relationships; it also liberates tremendous psychic energy.  — Excerpt from Rob Brezsny’s Shadow School.

Shadow School Yoga Challenge asks that you be open to receiving all parts of yourself; the sticky, uncomfortable, and undesirable.

You are ready to sit in all of it.

You will be supported by a community AND prompted to reflect with meditation, journaling questions, and classes themed on the emotions we’d rather ignore.

Fear, Grief, Anger, Shame, Guilt, Duplicity, Illusion, Attachment; you will tenderly examine and express each emotion in a Lila Flow Yoga class featuring original music by Pete Wonder.

You will enter the storm. You will ride the turbulence. You will receive the beauty and gems of your efforts as you progress through the Lila Flow Shadow School.

This challenge is FREE for all new members of Practice with Clara—we will share the coupon code for you to use for a month’s subscription in September.

What's involved?

  • Lila Flow-focused yoga.
  • LIVE yoga every Saturday.
  • Meditations and mantras.
  • Repetition to aid with your learning + development.
  • Support from a community.
  • On-demand content to do the classes at your leisure.
  • Chance to win a gift from one of our partners if you complete the challenge!

Why Shadow School?

Inspired by one of her teachers, Rob Brezsney, Clara themed the latest Lila Flow Yoga Series to unearth the darker emotions we experience.

Shadow School takes this concept one step further to consider the unconscious aspects of the psyche, or as Carl Jung calls it, the Shadow

“It is by going down into the abyss that you recover the treasures of life,” wrote Joseph Campbell. “Where you stumble, there lies your treasure.”

Jungian psychologists believe that you must confront your Shadow and bring it to the Light to awaken your inner divinity.

Rob Brezney writes: “Neuroscientists at Britain’s Bristol University have concluded that playing in the dirt can make you feel really good. That’s because most soil is crawling with species of bacteria that interact favourably with the human body, strengthening the immune system and stimulating the brain in the same way antidepressants do.

Let’s hypothesize that this is an apt metaphor for playing in the dirt of the shadow.”

Fall Equinox Day Long Retreat

Take a tour of your spiritual basement...

It’s an excavation, an unearthing, and a time to decompress and dig deep into the spaces within yourself.

You’re invited to a Virtual Equinox Retreat

Tuesday, September 21st, 2021

The fall equinox is Clara’s favourite time of year. September 22nd is the halfway point between the summer and winter solstice.

In the Northern hemisphere, the plants are preparing for hibernation. They are shedding leaves and all things that are taking up unnecessary resources.

Drawing inspiration from nature, this is a wonderful time to take stock of what you have, who you are, and shed any and all things taking up unnecessary energy.

As we move into the darkness of winter, we begin to go inside; we get more self-reflective.

Clara calls this time of year when we take the stairs down into our spiritual basements and tinker with the unseen.

Join us for a day of self-reflection filled with meditation, journaling prompts, recipes, inspirational reads and a day of yoga and community.

Mantra | 7-Day Sadhana Series

sadhana series

Reignite your relationship with ritual to enhance your attention and focus

Join us for a 7-Day Sadhana Series to celebrate the power of mantra and movement this fall.

Sadhana is a ‘spiritual technique that leads to perfection.’ Through devotion to a technique that is infused with meaning, the practitioners of these different forms find a means toa refine aspects of who they are physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually through their bodies.
—Shiva Rea.

You’re invited to Mantra Sadhana Series

Monday, September 13th – Sunday, September 19th

A transformative spiritual experience— Sadhana translates as ‘realization’ from Sanskrit.

For the inaugural 7-Day Sadhana Series, we’re featuring mantras and short movement practices for you to feel clear, grounded, and more attuned to those around you.

Mantra is a powerful tool to focus your mind and attention on a specific word or phrase. Chanting mantras help you release positive energies into the universe.

Mantras may decrease stress and anxieties and calm the mind and body. Mantras are shown to slow down the sympathetic nervous system into the parasympathetic nervous system—meaning, your body moves from fight or flight mode into rest and digest mode, where you feel more calm and creative.

A scientific study from 2016 showed that mantras have the power to improve mood, attention, and social cohesion.

You can move with more awareness and integrity with the seasonal shift into fall with a daily ritual of mantra practice and short yoga classes to break up the lethargy and get your blood flowing.

This Mantra-focused, 7-Day Sadhana Series includes a daily mantra class and a yoga class featuring Lila Flow Yoga, meditation, and Yoga Nidra.

When I work with a mantra, I focus on the sound, not necessarily a meaning. The way mantra was initially taught to me is to enjoy the sounds and how they reverberate in the body. Through the sound, there’s an opening. I find that mantra also helps prepare me to sit for meditation.
— Clara Roberts-Oss.

Benefits of a Sadhana practice

  • Cultivate awareness.
  • Confront mental blockages.
  • Brave challenges in body and mind.
  • Embrace adversity.
  • Develop strength in your body through yoga.
  • Build strength in your mind with mantras and meditation.

  • Build tapas (heat) to burn away impurities.
  • Make time to reflect on choices and actions.
  • Connect with the Sangha (community).
  • Create a habit to better your lifestyle, health, and connection to spirituality.

You can join us:

Here’s how YOU can be part of the 7-Day Sadhana Series:

  1. Get the Mantra | 7-Day Sadhana Series playlist on your Practice with Clara App.

Art of Sequencing Training Yoga Teacher Training

Art of Sequencing Yoga Teacher Training

A 20-Hour Online Event

Friday, November 5th – Monday, November 8th, 2021

Do you want to discover the science behind holistic vinyasa yoga sequencing?

In this 4-day Art of Sequencing Yoga Teacher Training, we’ll unpack peak yoga postures, do a deep dive into Lila Flow Yoga Wave Theory sequencing, discuss themes, explore subtle body practices, and examine how and why we aim to create balance in the muscle groups and nervous system in a yoga class.

This program features the history and practice of vinyasa yoga, specifically, Prana Vinyasa Flow pioneered by my teacher, Shiva Rea. This style of yoga embodies movement, chanting, music, and breath control to direct the life force/energy (Prana).

Hi, I’m Clara,

I’m super passionate about vinyasa yoga and have been teaching the Art of Sequencing for 15+ years. My goal is to assist teachers in developing a holistic approach to vinyasa yoga sequencing and show students the power of experiential movement practices.

Take a 2-hour LIVE YOGA CLASS with me each day of training.

Each LIVE yoga class is accompanied by a 1-hour on-demand lecture that delves into the intricacies and technicalities of alignment, advanced and foundational postures, subtle body practices, and themes.

Participants will have the option to review and reflect on the lectures and additional on-demand content 2-weeks after the training ends to embody the material and techniques.

What will I learn in this 4-day training?

Participants will be introduced and encouraged to explore:
  • Technicalities on proper alignment based on body type.

  • Sequencing to a peak pose/flow to anchor the class.

  • The six families of poses and how to balance targeted muscle groups.

  • Subtle body practices to stimulate and ground the nervous system.

  • The importance of voice, language, and music in curating a class.

  • Modifications for injury, pregnancy, and yogis of all levels.

Who is this training for?

Advanced students and yoga teachers looking to deepen their knowledge of vinyasa yoga and develop their practice.

▴ For teachers, this experience will help you create more memorable yoga classes as you develop a voice and vision for the structure and style of your vinyasa yoga sequencing.

We’ll go over technicalities concerning alignment, how to stabilize the corresponding muscle groups for your peak pose/flow, and how to create balance in the nervous system through pranayama (breath)

We’ll also cover how to select the right elements that contribute to and help communicate your theme. Yoga classes that are anchored in a theme can dramatically alter the overall feeling of the yoga class in the body and mind of students; how you sequence, speak, select music, position yourself and use props and space contribute to the Bhavana (mood) of the class.

▴ For advanced students, this is an opportunity to empower your practice; you’ll learn about peak poses, how to prepare the body for them and why we do specific postures at a given time, and lastly, how to modify for different body types. This experience gives students a guide to the vinyasa yoga practice, and how to align and adjust for what your body may need at any given time.

“The knowledge I gained from Clara’s training was astronomical, and I would do it all again in a heartbeat. Working with Clara has greatly enhanced my ability to execute sequenced classes more professionally. These are the “how to’s” or the “teaching” that I took away including, the use of clear and concise language, the appropriate vocal tone for the Bhavna and time of the class, allowing for space and silence, pausing for breath, the timing of the sequence within the sequence, use of suitable rhythms or music, and much more! The knowledge I gained in this training aligns with my aspirations as a teacher and human being."

“Clara’s training helped me break out of my comfort zone by giving me the skills to teach aspects of the practice that I wasn’t previously confident in, such as leading mantra for a group. I left each module of training feeling more confident and inspired as a teacher, and that shows up in my public classes and online offerings. Following Clara’s training, I have been able to step into the role of offering continuing education for other yoga teachers in my community. I’m so glad I chose to continue my yogic studies with Clara as it was the perfect step to help challenge me and push me towards growth as a teacher."

“The training was everything I was looking for and more. As a Manual Osteopath, I’m very passionate about injury prevention and support and Clara educated us on the newest research regarding incorrect movements and common injures we’re seeing in the industry today. She taught us what we can do as teachers to support our students through proper alignment, cueing and how to carefully craft a proper sequence that prepares the body and supports the intention. We learned how to find inspiration, flesh out theming that feels authentic to us, and create impactful Bhav."

Here’s what students from the last training had to say:

“Clara’s knowledge and time offer so much more to the process of building a better, all-encompassing practice that weaves the anatomical, subtle body and your own intention clearly and concisely throughout your given sequence. Her creativity and reasoning are inspiring.”

— AOS student, July 2021.

“Through wave theory, I now think about sequencing in a new way. I taught one of the classes today that I sequenced from the training and it made so much sense, I didn’t forget anything, and it felt amazing!!!

— AOS student, July 2021.

“I feel, more confident in creating more effective sequences for myself and my fellow yogis who share the practice with me. I feel a deep transformation in my own practice and in the way of doing, creating, feeling asana, mantra and pranayama in my being. My edges have softened and my sequencing repertoire is greatly broadened. I never thought to sequence something like “shame” but that class really opened me up and I hope to offer similar classes to my students. The tip about feeling the emotion and detaching from it before teaching it is key. I feel the growth and I am open to more, as always! thank you so much.

— AOS student, July 2021.

“It’s packed with knowledge and information, skillfully designed and delivered. I didn’t want to blink in case I miss something 😂”

— AOS student, July 2021.

“I really loved the concept and breakdown of wave theory for sequencing. It was concise and very clear, plus the interaction with fellow students and break-out rooms helped create a sense of support and kula. It was great to connect to others from around the globe that are also looking to evolve in their practice. I feel like sequencing makes much more sense now, not only as a teacher but as a student for my own home practice. Clara has given us the tools to be able to implement an effective synergy of asana, mantra, pranayama and mudras to create a well-rounded, all-encompassing class that supports a peak pose or theme throughout the practice.

— AOS student, July 2021.

  • Advanced asanas and sequencing with peak yoga poses and flows.

  • Practices for the subtle body including pranayamas (breathwork), kriyas (actions), mudras (gestures), mantras, and meditation.

  • How to build an online platform and presentation to grow a virtual community.

How long does the training last?

The training is 20-hours in total over four days.

What will the schedule look like?

Students will take the pre-recorded 2-hour vinyasa yoga class at their leisure before the live session with Clara and the faculty. The live session will be on Zoom for 2.5 hours. The live session consists of a 2-hour lecture on the day’s prerecorded vinyasa class, a 1-hour session of breakout rooms with your peers, and a 30-minute live Q&A with Clara to go over any final notes from that day.

The full schedule with exact times will be posted in July, two weeks before the training.

Can I do this certification program with a full-time job?

Is there help in finding your voice and own personal style?

Yes! This course is tailored to help teachers discover their unique voices to create classes that resonate with students. All students in training will be encouraged to choose elements and themes they find inspiring to create class sequences. The purpose is to find what lights you up and bring it into your class to offer to your students.

Is this training just for teachers?

Not in the least! Students who have been consistently practicing yoga for 3+ years who are interested in deepening their practice, understanding, and application of vinyasa yoga are welcome to take the 4-day weekend training. This course is meant for those who want to dive deep into Lila Flow Yoga Wave Theory and weave unique themes and elements into their classes. You will receive a certification in vinyasa yoga from my school, Lila School of Vinyasa Yoga.

Will my teaching certificate be recognized globally?

Yes! Our school is Yoga Alliance recognized.

The 2-hour vinyasa classes are on-demand and will be hosted on my site Practice with Clara for you to get a feel for how to create on-demand content. I will go over how to host live and on-demand classes during the training.

Do I require an internet connection while taking the program, or can I view lectures offline?

Yes, you will require a reliable internet connection as the entire program is web-based. You will also need the most up-to-date version of the Google Chrome browser. Our programming is most compatible with this browser.

If the 2-hour vinyasa classes are on-demand, what opportunities are there for faculty support and interaction with other students?

The classes are hosted on Practice with Clara, and all participants receive a 3-month membership with the training.
These classes are exclusive to the training members and will be labelled by date as the lecture in the afternoon will be on the specified 2-hour class of that day.

The day’s lecture, breakout rooms, and Q&A will all be themed for the LIVE yoga class, so students are encouraged to take the class before the lecture to get the most out of the experiences.
