The theme of my week has been shanti which translates as peace or tranquility from Sanskrit.

There is so much turmoil on the planet right now, which can cause me to internalize that turmoil when I’m not mindful. This leads me to having a hard time sleeping, clenching my jaw and tightening my shoulders. All of which I have been doing this week.
To counter this, I’ve been working on peace in my practice.
Cultivating peace within myself with deep breathing, slower movements and loving kindness. And I also did a few HIIT (high intense interval training) classes. Gotta move that angst out with some explosive movements. Both these practices have left me feeling better.

The Tibetan buddhist book I’m currently reading reminded me – at the end of each practice, send metta (loving kindness) out into the world. I’ve been doing that in the form of shanti – peace.

May you move what you’ve been holding onto,
May you free the words and thoughts that bind you,
May you find peace within,
May you embody peace,
May you spread peace.

Big hug,

“For Equilibrium, a Blessing:
Like the joy of the sea coming home to shore,
May the relief of laughter rinse through your soul.

As the wind loves to call things to dance,
May your gravity by lightened by grace.

Like the dignity of moonlight restoring the earth,
May your thoughts incline with reverence and respect.

As water takes whatever shape it is in,
So free may you be about who you become.

As silence smiles on the other side of what’s said,
May your sense of irony bring perspective.

As time remains free of all that it frames,
May your mind stay clear of all it names.

May your prayer of listening deepen enough
to hear in the depths the laughter of god [the Divine].”
