Year of the Snake: Shedding the Past & Embracing Growth

Year of the Snake: Shedding the Past & Embracing Growth

The Year of the Snake is a time of profound shedding, renewal, and personal transformation. Just as the snake sheds its skin to grow, we, too, are invited to release what no longer serves us and step into our next phase of expansion.

This meditation and visualization practice, guided by Cindy Stockdale, is shared within the Practice with Clara Virtual Yoga Studio. It aligns with the Lunar New Year’s invitation to embrace change, vulnerability, and deep wisdom.

The snake teaches us:
✔ Growth requires letting go of old forms—we cannot fit into the past when we are expanding into something greater.

✔ Vulnerability is part of transformation—like a snake that is momentarily blind when shedding, we must trust the unfolding of our path.
✔ Seeing things as they are brings clarity—by releasing conditioned beliefs, we gain a truer understanding of ourselves.
✔ Where we focus our attention shapes our reality—our gaze determines our experience, so we must choose what we feed our awareness.

This is a time to step into the fullness of who you are meant to be. Just as the snake never returns to its old skin, neither do we. What are you ready to shed?

Meet Cindy Stockdale:

My deepest passion is to support you to reclaim your personal power and help you live a fulfilled and satisfied life.

I am a certified Quantum Life Coach with degrees in Psychology and Archaeology. I have been teaching yoga, studying Mountain Shamanism and the energetic healing arts for over 20 years, and been an intuitive and channel my entire life.

My highest purpose is to help people remember they are loved. This is a true homecoming. Homecoming means we get to identify what we believe to be true, not what society has told us we need to be. We learn how to identify and discern our own feelings, beliefs, sensations, and then have the courage to live them outloud in the world. I am here for the wild one, the edge walker, the curse breaker, the life claimer. I am here for those who are ready to transform their lives.

WHERE TO FIND CINDY:

Year of the Snake – Shedding & Rebirth Through Awareness

Enjoy the outline of the meditation and visualization practice guided by Cindy Stockdale.

1. Arriving in the Present Moment

Find a comfortable seat or lie down, feeling fully supported.

Close your eyes.
Breathe deeply.
Feel the energy of the morning—the dawn of new beginnings.

Spring is the morning of the year, a time of emergence, expansion, and renewal.

Invite yourself to consider:

  • What is awakening within me?
  • Where am I being called to expand?
  • What do I need to release to grow fully?

Spring is a season of transition, much like the shedding process of the snake. It is time to let go.

2. The Wisdom of the Snake – Shedding to Expand

In Traditional Chinese Astrology, the Year of the Snake represents:
✔ Transformation – A period of profound personal evolution.
✔ Shedding the Past – Releasing outmoded beliefs, habits, or roles.
✔ Deep Wisdom – Trusting intuitive knowing and seeing clearly.
✔ Vulnerability in Growth – Allowing space for discomfort as a sign of expansion.

Snakes shed their skin because they have outgrown their current form.

They never return to the old skin—just as we cannot shrink ourselves back into past versions of who we were.

What no longer fits you?
What are you being called to step into?

3. The Vulnerability of Shedding – Trusting the Process

A snake, in the midst of shedding, also sheds its eyelids, making it temporarily blind.

This period of not seeing, of deep trust, of waiting is essential.

We, too, experience times where we:

  • Cannot see what is next.
  • Feel exposed and vulnerable in transition.
  • Must trust that the new self is forming, even if we cannot see it yet.

Can you allow yourself to be in the in-between—to trust your unfolding, even when the path is unclear?

What does trusting your process feel like in your body?

4. Seeing Clearly – The Power of Literal Awareness

Snake medicine teaches us to see things as they are, without illusion.

In the shamanic tradition, we engage with four ways of seeing:
Literal – Seeing things as they are, without making meaning.
Symbolic – Understanding deeper connections beneath the surface.
Mythic – Recognizing the grand narrative shaping our lives.
Essential – Seeing from pure awareness, beyond duality.

The literal vision of the snake is a practice in itself.

Instead of immediately assigning meaning, ask:

  • What if I simply see things as they are?
  • What stories am I telling myself that may not be true?
  • Where have I been conditioned to believe something that no longer serves me?

Seeing clearly allows us to shed false narratives—to release what is not real so we can stand in the truth of our being.

5. The Power of Attention – Shaping Your Reality

What we focus on expands.

In neurolinguistic programming (NLP), the Reticular Activating System in the brain filters information based on what we deem important.

  • If you buy a red car, suddenly you see red cars everywhere.
  • If you believe you are unworthy, your brain will filter experiences to confirm that belief.
  • If you focus on expansion, joy, and possibility, you create a reality that reflects that.

Ask yourself:
✔ What am I currently focusing on?
✔ Does this focus serve my growth?
✔ What do I want to pay attention to moving forward?

The Year of the Snake invites us to refine our awareness—to choose where we place our gaze, knowing that our focus shapes our reality.

6. Energy Work – Embodying the Shedding Process

Find a comfortable position.

Close your eyes.
Breathe deeply.

Visualize:

  • A snake coiled inside of you, preparing to shed its skin.
  • Feel the weight of the old layer, ready to be released.
  • Imagine peeling away limiting beliefs, stagnant energy, and outdated stories.
  • With each breath, allow the shedding to occur—effortlessly, naturally.

What is falling away?

What is emerging in its place?

Allow space for transformation without forcing it.

Just as the snake does not resist shedding, we, too, can soften into change with ease and grace.

7. Integration – Aligning with Your New Self

Take a deep breath.
Place your hands over your heart.

Ask yourself:

  • What do I need to rise into my next phase?
  • What am I carrying forward?
  • What support do I need in this new cycle?

The Year of the Snake is about evolution, but you do not have to force the process.

Shedding is natural.
Growth is inevitable.
Trust in your unfolding.

Closing Reflection – Stepping into Your Becoming

Take a final deep breath.
Feel the lightness of releasing what no longer serves you.

The snake teaches us:

  • To let go when we outgrow old versions of ourselves.
  • To trust the process, even when we cannot see what’s ahead.
  • To choose where we place our focus, knowing it creates our reality.

Ask yourself:
✔ What am I ready to release?
✔ What am I stepping into?
✔ How can I honor my own transformation?

You are exactly where you need to be.
Let this be the year you shed fully, rise completely, and step into your highest self.
