A class to ground and embody the Earth element, join Clara and the Students of Lila Vinyasa Yoga for an all-levels class to open the hips.

Style: Hatha

Duration: 22-min

Level: Open-levels

Props: N/A

Focus: General

Location: Stretch – Vancouver

A Hatha class that gently flows through a variety of balancing poses, this sequence encourages you to feel the strength and stability in your legs.

The Earth has a dense, grounding quality that you’ll open to receive as you move and breathe. Start in Balasana, (child’s pose) and ground through your hands and belly as it rests towards the Earth.

Ignite Ujjayi breath to gently build heat from within. Soften your jaw and your gaze as you move, and continue to ground through the parts of the body that are touching the Earth.

This gentle flow begins with Phalakasana (plank pose) followed by a no-hand Bhujangasana (cobra pose) to ignite the muscles along the back body, specifically the erectors along the spine.

Make your way to Tadasana (standing) for single-leg lifts to test your balance, step back to a high or low lunge where you’ll breathe deeply for eight full breaths with any hand mudra you prefer.

Ardha Hanumanasana (half splits) and Urdhva Prasarita Eka Padasana (standing splits) targets the hamstrings, calves, glutes, and back. Step forward for Vrksasana (tree pose) and reach your hands overhead and sparkle your fingers wide.

Vrksasana creates strength in the ankles, calves, and abdominals to assist in grounding and connecting to the Earth.

Cooldown and rest with Uttanasana (standing forward bend), Balasana (child’s pose), and seated meditation.

This class is a Hatha-style class and accessible for yogi’s of all levels, and filmed in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
